Black bill proposes crowdfunding to help pay for border wall with Mexico

U.S. Rep. Diane Black, who is stressing her opposition to illegal immigration in campaigning for governor, has proposed in Congress to use crowdfunding to help pay for the border wall proposed by President Donald Trump, reports Fox News. She has also issued a press release on the “Border Wall Trust Fund Act.”

People could donate any amount of money to it, with the funds specifically designated for “whatever it takes to build the wall” — from supplies to salaries. It would be overseen by the Treasury Department, according to Black.

…People could donate any amount of money to it, with the funds specifically designated for “whatever it takes to build the wall” — from supplies to salaries. It would be overseen by the Treasury Department, according to Black.

In an interview with Fox News, Black said while anyone can donate money to the U.S. Treasury now, this trust fund would ensure donations would specifically go toward the construction of the border wall.

“I support President Trump in building the wall. It’s going to take big funds to do that,” Black said, adding that she doesn’t believe Congress has done enough in terms of allocating funding for the wall.

In the interview (video below — it begins with a clip of Trump talking about the wall) Black says that, as chair of the House Budget Committee, she has faced “real frustration” in not being able to provide $25 billion to fund the wall and blames the U.S. Senate for the failure to fund. She added that “my Twitter has been blowing up; the telephones in my offices have been blowing up” with Tennesseans unhappy that wall construction is not financed.

And Black said there’s a precedent since “crowdfunding was actually used for the Washington monument” at the nation’s capitol, which has plaques noting “organizations from all around the country” in place to honor the donors.

Press release from Black’s congressional office:

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Congressman Diane Black (R-TN-06) introduced the Border Wall Trust Fund Act, which would create an account at the U.S. Treasury dedicated to holding public donations for the completion of the wall along the United States’ southern border. Congressman Black released the following statement:

“While Democrats block commonsense border security and put illegal immigrants before our families, we are going to put America first. Real immigration reform cannot be achieved without a secure border – President Trump has been clear about this since day one. The most important job of the federal government is the safety and security of the American people, and if citizens in our country wish to contribute to this effort, they absolutely should be given the opportunity. Americans know that President Trump is committed to protecting our nation for future generations, and we are ready to stand with him to build the wall.”

H.R. 5876 allows money deposited in the Border Wall Trust Fund to be used for planning, designing, constructing and maintaining a barrier along the international border between the United States and Mexico. The Border Wall Trust Fund Act is supported by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) and NumbersUSA.

More bureaucracy is never the answer. No. If Ms Black would quit voting for the Omnibus spending bills, there would be plenty of money to build the wall. Use some of the bloated military budget if needed asap.

  • James White says:

Also the SCOTUS ruled years ago, there is No Trust Funds. There is only One Big Blob of money in the Treasury . (they ruled there is no social security trust)

  • Tennessee Jed says:

If she wants a wall so bad, why doesn’t she start by making the first donation. Open Secrets says she has a net worth of $75 million. Just another case of Diane Black pandering for votes

    • Stuart I. Anderson says:

Doing what a majority of voters want you to do is “pandering” only if you are part of the minority that is opposed to whatever the majority wants. In this case a vast majority of Tennesseans want the United States to control who comes into this country and to make Tennessee just about the least welcoming state in the union for illegal aliens.

I’ve read that Bredesen is worth about $100,000,000. I can’t wait to see your suggestions as to what whacky scheme favored by the liberals in Congress that you will suggest be the recipient of Bredesen donations.

  • James White says:

Yeah Jed, They called me last night and said Diane needs 50K as soon as possible to continue the fight against illegal immigration. I told them she is a Multi Millionaire, she can pull 50K out of her back pocket.
I had to hang up after that.

  • Steve L. says:

I could stand to have someone “pander” for my votes. Pander=Responsive in my book. Neither Corker, Alexander, or Haslam have pandered for my support recently. And with the government spending $4 billion/hour I believe we can afford to build a wall. The cost savings for the circus taking place at the border (Border Patrol Agents/Support staff for the Border Patrol/Jails/Buses/Judges/Public Defenders/Fence fixers/ etc.) is costing the USA a fortune. Build the wall and save that money to pay for it. This IS NOT about money to the Democrats. It is not about Christian Charity. It is about money and elections that generate money.

    • Tennessee Jed says:

Steve, spending $25 billion on a piece of of 2,000 year old technology is as dumb as it gets. More illegal immigration comes from visa overstays than it does from border crossings. Advocating building an expensive and ineffective wall that won’t change anything is pandering….especially in non-border state governor race. If you want to stop illegal immigration, at least go with a candidate who attacks the problem rationally.

  • Steve L. says:

Building the wall is more than just a border control device. It is a statement. The longest journey begins with a single step.Visa overstays BEGIN with a lawful entry. Crossing the border BEGINS with an illegal entry. Lets do the easy stuff first. As to the 2,000 year old technology? Are you serious? Everyone in this country that can afford to put a wall around their homes does so. Ever been to a military base? A Prison? Graceland? Bill Clinton’s Home? Nancy Pelosi’s home? The White House? The CIA HQ in McLean, VA? My backyard? They all have ways to control access (like walls/fences). The more security needed, the more expensive and complex the barrier. That last statement was a credibility killer, Jed. Really, it is.

    • Tennessee Jed says:

You can have your $25 billion dollar statement. Just don’t use my tax dollars to do it.

      • Steve L. says:

Please read the lead title to this line of discussion. “Black bill proposes crowdfunding to help pay for border wall with Mexico”. Does that take care of it?

  • William Upton says:

I think it is an idea worth considering to get the wall built. Sure I’d rather use existing wasted tax money to build it but then we have to deal with the democrats and whatever silly, PC arguments they have against it. Sometimes people are just going to have to pitch in and do things that have to get done. It seems that is going to be more and more the way of the future. I have heard all the objections to the wall but I still think it is the best solution and a necessary one. Sometimes “old school” solutions still work especially against “old school” problems.

  • Karen Brown says:

I would definitely give money towards the wall, as long as it goes to the wall. We need the borders secure!
We are the only country that gets constant attacks on the fact that we want our borders secure. Stop the flow of illegals, drugs and weapons! BUILD THE WALL.
