NRA endorses Diane Black for governor

Press release from NRA Political Victory Fund

Fairfax, Va.— The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) today endorsed Rep. Diane Black for governor in the Tennessee Republican Primary Election. Black is the only Tennessee gubernatorial candidate with an “A” rating and perfect record on Second Amendment issues.

“For over two decades Diane Black has been a steadfast supporter of our constitutional right to self-defense. She has never wavered in the fight to expand and protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens,” said Chris W. Cox, chairman, NRA-PVF. “Diane Black has a perfect record on Second Amendment issues and we enthusiastically endorse her candidacy.”

Black co-sponsored and voted for the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, which was the strongest self-defense legislation ever to pass the U.S House of Representatives. She voted to protect the Second Amendment rights of our nation’s veterans and voted to repeal the Obama administration’s regulation that wrongly denied many Social Security beneficiaries their Second Amendment rights.

“As a concealed carry permit holder, Diane Black doesn’t just vote the right way on the Second Amendment, she actively exercises her constitutional right to self-protection and is passionate about safeguarding the right of all law-abiding Tennesseans to protect themselves and the people they love,” continued Cox.

Black has always opposed any attempt to ban firearms, ban ammunition or restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms.

“Tennesseans can trust Diane Black to stand strong in defense of their constitutional freedoms. On behalf of the NRA’s six million members, we urge all Second Amendment supporters to vote Diane Black for governor,” concluded Cox.

Yep, and the NRA also endorsed in 2016 numerous state incumbents who voted against constitutional carry. So, the question is can the NRA’s endorsement be trusted or is it just a “quid pro quo”.

The question is who has the Tennessee Firearms Association endorsed?

Tennessee’s constitution is unique. Constitutional carry simply does not exist. Instead all power of the carrying of arms is vested in the Legislature. There can never be “constitutional carry” as defined. There is however the choice to eliminate the permit process but then we are restricted from carrying in other states. Instead we truly have one of the better state laws on going armed. I just such the NICS check would go away for permit holders.

First let me say an “A” rating is not a ‘perfect record.’ There is an “A+” which would be the ‘perfect record.’ Having said that an “A” rating is fairly good but in reality only Rep. Black and Rep. Harwell can get those ratings. Bill Lee and Randy Boyd, having been non-elected individuals, would not have the track record the NRA uses to give their ratings. The best either could hope for would be an “AQ” rating which is one based solely upon the answers to a questionnaire the NRA sent them.

When I read this story I called the Institute for Legislative Action and asked them how they rated the other three in this race. Short answer – they haven’t yet. They told me they would have their final ratings available later towards October. I told them Hell’s Fire by October it will be all over with except for the shouting. As an NRA member I am very interested in how they rate Rep. Harwell, Boyd and Lee to assist me in making a decision prior to the primary in August.

As a Life member of the NRA I am very disappoint they have chosen this tact in making this announcement. I am sure this decision will have an effect on my willingness to make future donations to their cause.

Well Harwell did vote for an Article V Constitutional Convention. And if That ever happens you can be the liberal will want to change the 2nd amendment.

  • Bob Fischer says:

Let’s see, Ollie was the prime mover and shaker destabilizing Central America and now he endorses Black because we need more guns? To sell to the Contras? These people are criminals.

  • Phil Lassiter says:

Harwell has the worst 2nd Amendment record. She either stopped or allowed every good piece of Second Amendment legislation to die in her committee process. The Chairs of the respective committees are just as culpable.

For the record Gents, Beth Harwell is a hunter and gun enthusiast. You need to get your facts straight before trashing Beth Harwell.

Gents, Beth Harwell attends the all women duck hunts with the TN Wildlife Federation. She is a strong Second Amendment supporter as am I, a competitive shotgun shooter for many years. Please get your facts straight before commenting on her stand re Second Amendment. I’ve known her for years and know this to be true.
