Matlock congressional campaign and business under ‘almost constant’ cyberattacks

State Rep. Jimmy Matlock’s congressional campaign released a statement Friday saying their campaign, and Matlock’s business, have been facing “an almost constant stream” of cyberattacks, reports the News Sentinel.

“We have filed a police report on the illegal hijacking of our staffer’s cell-phone and have retained a cyber-crime forensic investigator,” the release stated. “We are relatively certain who is behind it because they left a trail a mile wide and are just gathering the remaining evidence.”

Matlock leads Burchett in 2nd Congressional District fundraising

State Rep. Jimmy Matlock of Lenoir City raised and spent more money in his campaign for the Republican nomination in the 2nd Congressional District in the first quarter of 2018 than any other candidate, including Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett, according to disclosure statements filed with the Federal Election Commission.

Aided by another $50,000 personal loan, the Matlock campaign has also built up a higher cash balance than Burchett’s campaign in the race to succeed retiring Republican U.S. Rep. John J. “Jimmy” Duncan Jr.

Senate sends ‘defund Planned Parenthood’ bill to governor

The state Senate Thursday approved and sent to the governor a bill promoted as “defunding” Planned Parenthood. It requires TennCare officials to submit a waiver request to the federal government for ending any payments to “elective abortion providers’ – even if those payments are for health care services other than abortions.

Hillary Clinton inspired Matlock’s run for House speaker?

Rep. Jimmy Matlock tells the News Sentinel that his wife, Dean, helped convince him to challenge Beth Harwell as House speaker. His spouse is described as a “strong Christian conservative” who was, in turn, inspired by Democratic Hillary Clinton’s presidential candidacy to tell her husband he “should do more” in the way of political activism.

“You guys have to stand up to the overreach of the federal government,” she told him.

…“The demeanor and mood in Nashville is way too distrusting and way too negative,” said Matlock. He blames poor communication among the members, a problem he believes he would be able to address.

“I just think it’s a chance to restart the direction of the caucus with a new mood and outlook,” he said.

Matlock says his wife also urged him to jump into the race early “if you really believe that you are transparent and open.”
